If you have access to a fax they would most likely fax you the information you require. Also check the MAXIM Web page. Good luck David Y. Brisbane, Australia. The official RS-232 specs are by the CCITT (see chipdir/abc) or some organisation like that (ANSI?). I assume, you can buy them from your local specs institution, which is probably ANSI. At least we bought them from the NNI (Nederlands Normalisatie Instituut = Dutch Normalisation Institute) about ten years ago. Very boring stuff!!! ;-) And a bit related: An overview of the V-series for definitions of modems can be found on: ftp://scitsc.wlv.ac.uk/pub/infomagic/standards/ccitt/1992/v/vinforce.txt The specs are in the same directory but most of them in PS format. The recent references to 'RS'-232 that I have seen now bear an EIA designation (Electronic Industries Association) or TIA (Telecommunications Ind Assc) such as EIA-232D or EIA/TIA-232D. There was a move some years ago to change from RS to EIA (ie. EIA-232C) and it probably is officially but I don't think any one worries that much about it. You could try a web search on EIA or Electronic Industries Association. Have a look at the book "the art of electronics" by Horowitz & Hill. On Page 288 (in the german edition) you will find some information. But I think nearly every good book about communication electronics should contain at least one paragraph about the R232. That interface specification was established by the Electronic Industries Association (EIA). The RS (Recommended Standard) prefix was changed years ago to EIA-232. There is a suffix letter showing the revision level. It a joint EIA/TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association) standard. To the best of my knowledge, the current version is EIA/TIA-232-E. The title is "Interface Between Data Terminal Equipment and Data Circuit-Terminating Equipment Employing Serial Binary Data Interchange". It concerns the physical characteristics of the connection and connector signal usage. It is also an American National Standard. In that guise, it is ANSI/EIA/TIA-232-3-1991; Approved: July 10, 1991. I have a copy of the EIA-232 standard. If you have specific questions, ask me. Inside the EIA-232 standard's cover is: Electronic Industries Association Engineering Department 2001 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. Washington, D.C 20006 EIA Standards Sales Department 202-457-4966 Part of the revisions of EIA-232 have been to bring it into conformance with various international standards, formerly CCITT, now ITU. The EIA-232 foreward lists more than I'm willing to type up. I been doing contract work involving serial interfaces for the past 20 years. I'd be happy to discuss any projects or time and expenses arrangements.
