You don't have to register.
It makes no difference with regards to your access to the Chipdir.
It's just that I like to read where you read/heard about the Chipdir and if you like it.
Or if you'd like to see certain things improved.
I'd like to improve all aspects of the Chipdir but I am not sure what to improve first...
Of course your email address won't be misused for spamming.
in the early days of the site I have used it a couple of times
to notify people when the first mirror site of the Chipdir
had been set-up in their part of the world, but it was a lot of
work to sort out all the addresses and handle all the bouncing mail
and there are now mirror sites all over the world...
You can also register a company
if you think it should be listed in the Chipdir.
